Born in Olera, a hamlet of Alzano Lombardo in 1563, Tommaso Acerbis was known as the "begging friar", an activity to which he devoted himself with zeal in many parishes of what was then the Republic of Venice.

Born of a peasant family, Tommaso worked as a shepherd as a child, without receiving any education. At the age of seventeen, he entered Verona as a lay brother with the Capuchins, where he was taught to read and write, and where he was entrusted with the task of begging, in the city and surroundings.

From Verona in 1605 he passed to Vicenza, where he remained for seven years; then in Rovereto, for four years.

In the spring of 1618 the superiors assigned him to Padua, to carry out the office of porter: open to those who presented themselves at the door of the convent and offer bread and consolation to those who showed up.

During his life, he spent his life on the foundation of convents and monasteries, thanks to his fame as a preacher he reached the court of the Dukes of Bavaria and Emperor Ferdinand II of Habsburg, of which he became spiritual adviser, without however ever forgetting his mission in contact with the people.

When he died, in May 1631, in the city on the Inn, his fame as a preacher was widespread, mainly in those lands where the last and most fruitful phase of his apostolate had taken place.
