On this mountain stood the castle of the Vitalba nobles: by will of Bernardo Vitalba, in 1347, the church was founded which remained the property of the Vitalbas until the 19th century.
From 1847, the property passed to the Fabbriceria of the Parish of Nembro.

The sanctuary, dedicated to the Blessed Virgin of Sorrows, stands on the top of the Zuccarello hill which dominates the entire valley below, surrounded by majestic mountains.

Various frescoes and works embellish the Sanctuary:
the walls were frescoed by Giovanni Rodigari from Nembra in 1913

On the pillars on the left two frescoes of the Madonna and Child are visible, one of which is dated 1512

then there was a Pietà, traditionally attributed to Giovan Battista Moroni, unfortunately recently stolen

painted on the wall, respectively on the left and right, are the figures of S. Donato and S. Francesco

higher up Virgin of the Annunciation and Announcing Angel by Francesco Cavagna (ca. 1580-1630)

also by the same painter is the Visitation on the wall to the left of the small niche in which the altar is placed

frontally there is the flight into Egypt of Francesco Muzio, a 17th century painter

on the main altar a Pietà, called Our Lady of Sorrows, by an unknown artist from the Bergamo area, dated 1533

on the sides of the apse, plaster and stucco statues representing the prophets Zechariah and Isaiah, works from 1682 by the Ticino sculptors Sala

in the adjacent rooms of the sacristy several paintings by unknown artists from the 1600s and 1700s and some more recent ones

among these also the Nativity of Enea Salmeggia known as Talpino, currently undergoing restoration
