The north alpine long-distance hiking trail 01 was opened on June 22, 1975 at the Seebergsattel in Styria and is the first Austrian high-altitude transversal through the Eastern Alps. It stretches from Lake Neusiedl and the Vienna Woods through the northern limestone zone of the Eastern Alps to Lake Constance. It traverses the seven federal states of Burgenland, Lower Austria, Styria, Upper Austria, Salzburg, Tyrol and Vorarlberg and in the Dachstein and Hochkönig areas as well as on the Zugspitze and in the Lechtal Alps, altitudes of up to almost 3000 meters are climbed on this mostly high-Alpine long-distance hiking trail.
