Tips
In the past, there was a lot of trade with the Engelhartszell market and everyday goods were bought there. The transport of these goods over the approximately 3 km long and steep climb over the Donauleite was the job of women, hence the name "Frauensteig".But even the men were not spared the strain of the climb over the Danube bank when they "blackened" heavy sacks of smuggled goods from Austria to Bavaria at night. The high plateau above the Danube is reached after about 45 minutes via the 11 bends of the Frauensteig.
