Hard to believe that until about 200 years ago there was an impressive castle domain here, with French gardens, a courtyard, moat and ponds.
In the 13th century, Hendrik IV van Boutershem had a motte built on the banks of the Velpe and a keep built on it. Not much later, the mighty moated castle and the castle farm followed.
After the destruction of the moated castle in the 17th century, while the keep was spared, the castle was rebuilt in the Renaissance style.
At the beginning of the 19th century, however, all the buildings were demolished and the entire domain was eventually sold.
Today only the motte can be seen in the landscape.
