The hermitage of Nuestra Señora del Carmen is located in the town of San Martín de Toranzo, in front of an old bowling alley and the Toranzo Municipal Park.
Its construction dates back to 1686 when Sebastián de Agüero was a master stonemason. Its well-proportioned main façade stands out, finished off with a belfry, as well as the main altarpiece, of Solomonic order, which has been recently restored.

According to the historian Carmen González-Echegaray, the hermitage of Carmen de San Martín was one of the first in Cantabria dedicated to the Virgen del Carmelo and her image, since ancient times, is highly venerated by the inhabitants of the valley.
