    Arbon Castle
The fortified late Roman fort Arbor Felix ("the happy tree") dates back to 250 AD, and the Romans had to abandon it again at the time of the Great Migration around 400 AD. The castle later became the property of the Bishop of Constance. For over a thousand years, episcopal administrators and later bailiffs lived in the castle. Bishop Hugo von Hohenlandenberg expanded the complex between 1510 and 1518 in the form it appears today. Around 1800, the castle became private property and since 1945 it has been the property of the city of Arbon. After extensive interior and exterior restorations, the castle with its 33-meter-high, striking tower has been home to the historical museum for over 30 years. An institution for adult education and the cozy "Wirtschaft zum Schloss" are also based in the castle today. Weddings and other celebrations are often held in the historic walls. The authentic Landenberg Hall (named after its builder, Hugo von Hohenlandenberg) provides a dignified setting. Arbon Castle is now a regionally important cultural meeting center.

A castle in Arbon was first mentioned in 720 in the history of the monastery or Prince Abbey of St. Gallen. It stood on or near the site of the Roman fort Arbor Felix, dating from AD 250.
