From September 1939 there was a drilling tower here for the exploration of ore deposits. However, the bore was stopped after only 25 meters. The foundations were so heavy that they remained here after the drilling was abandoned.

Many of the original exploration drillings from the 1950s to 1970s were "backfilled and abandoned" after negative results or the sources dried up. Often, concrete foundations, old access roads, or rusted pipe elements remain in the terrain, which are now slowly being reclaimed by the moor.
