A 300-hectare French garden surrounded the palace, which was modeled on the park at Versailles. In the 19th century the garden was converted into an English park, much more like the current gardens, where walkers are still welcome. The main arteries of the park were lined with smaller alleys and clearings on which buildings or statues stood.
