The construction of this mosque, located at Dorieos square, was commission by Reçep Pasha in 1588, as the inscription right above its entrance suggests. Another two, minor constructions were developed next to the mosque, namely Reçep Pasha’s mausoleum, situated within the mosque’s courtyard, harbouring and containing his sarcophagus and those of two other members of his family and a ablution fountain.

Reçep Pasha’s Mosque has come to be considered a point of reference for Muslim architecture, all the more since it happens to be one of the earliest samples of its kind to be found in Rhodes. Despite the serious static problems, as a result of which the building has been put off limits, one may still remain ecstatic before some admirable external ornamental features of the concept.
