The Bavarian Prime Minister Franz Josef Strauss, who died on October 3rd, 1988, is in Rott a. Inn buried. He was buried in the Kaiser/Zwicknagl family crypt next to his wife Marianne, née Zwicknagl, who died in 1984 and whom he married in 1957 in the Rotter monastery church. The crypt is located at the lower entrance to the old part of the Rotter Cemetery. Franz Josef Strauß is an honorary citizen of the community of Rott a. Inn. The path that leads from Bahnhofstrasse to the monastery courtyard and on to the crypt was named after him.

The Strauss Crypt is open all year round from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
