An interesting outcrop can be seen at Kalb Lake. Beneath a basalt layer up to 100 m thick lay a brown coal layer up to 50 m thick. This was dismantled until the 1950s. Despite the thick basalt layer, it was worth mining.
The opencast mine then filled with water.

Brown coal was mined in the “Kalbe” mining area for 25 years. After mining stopped in 1974, the “Kalbesee” was formed, which was around 30 m deep and around 20,000 m² in size.
