A viaduct is a bridge whose supporting structure consists of several arches. Such an 80m long structure is located in the north of Uengsterode.

The sandstone arch viaduct was built in 1913-1914 for the Gelstertalbahn, which ran from Eichenberg via Großalmerode to Walburg. The Gelstertalbahn was opened in 1915, the year of the World War, and was used for passenger and freight transport until 1973. In 1983 freight traffic was also stopped.

You can find further interesting information and photos about the viaduct and the Gelstertalbahn on the information board 14 on the “Technical-Historical Teaching and Hiking Trail” at the northern entrance to Uengsterode.

The journey under the viaduct is impressive. However, a walk across the bridge is more interesting. Access is not blocked. However, the climb is a little arduous. Walking across the bridge makes all the effort worth it.

The Gelstertalbahn crosses the valley on the 80 m long viaduct. The viaduct consists of four round arches. The cycle path offers a very good photo opportunity.
