In the High Middle Ages there was a castle on the volcanic summit, of which not much remains.

There are hardly any traces of Hornsberg Castle left on site, apart from the moat system that still exists. The path that leads to the circular basalt peak is barely visible and is half overgrown. The path is also quite steep and impassable. On the other side, it goes down just as steeply. If you want to bypass the castle hill, the best way to do so is through the western moat, but this is also partially broken and overgrown with ferns. Overall, the castle ruins are not a highlight that I would recommend, but the exertion on the exceptionally bad paths is worth it for the views of Monte Kali to the north that you would not get from the easier paths.

A special vantage point for Monte Kali, as the highest peak of the salt dump can be seen from here and you are practically in close contact with the imposing mountain.
