Archaeological experience point 'Traces in the sand' of the Doldersummerveld. Amateur historian Jan Douma from Zorgvlied discovered at the end of 2011 while studying Google Earth that certain patterns occurred in the landscape on the Doldersummerveld that could not have arisen naturally. The parallel differences in height ran over the heath from Elsloo to Wateren. After contact with an archaeologist from the municipality of Westerveld, a professor of Landscape History from the University of Groningen was called in. This group visited the area in July 2012 and subscribed to the theory that this was an important ancient route (the A28 at the time), which arose because in the past the oxen and horse-drawn carts in the wet moors always used the high, dry places kept following from one ford (ford) to the next. The tracks in the sand may have been created before Roman times and must have been used intensively after that, even in the Middle Ages.
The experience point consists of an information board with the story of the (re)discovery with map material and information about the environment. In addition, on both sides of the avenue, in line with the cart tracks, a number of axles with cart wheels have been placed, which symbolize the carts that have left the tracks. de-star.nl/archeologisch-beleefpunt
