Circular hike down to the "cradle of Freudenstadt" - the Christophstal. From the Bärenschlössle, one of the oldest buildings in Freudenstadt with a stepped gable worth seeing, you have a great view of the city. Along the deer enclosure you go to the idyllic Langenwaldsee. Now the path leads uphill again to the Schöneck Hut, where you can catch a glimpse of Freudenstadt through the trees. On the Teuchelweg and the Wölperwiesenweg you get back to the starting point.
author tip
Enjoy original Swabian cuisine in the Gasthaus zum Bad and in the Waldcafé, both near the circular route (note opening times). The Hotel Langenwaldsee offers fine dining.
Directions
From the tourist information, the blue diamond leads us down into the Christophstal in the direction of "Bärenschlössle": We cross Loßburger Straße at the pedestrian traffic light. Past the fountains we leave the market square by going straight ahead on Finkenbergstrasse to Rappenstrasse. Once there, we keep right to the Adlerterrasse ("Adler-Anlagen"), where we have a beautiful view of the Bärenschlössle in Christophstal. We descend into the valley and follow the signs over the "Forbach Bridge" to the right into Christophstraße to the "Bärenschlössle". The hiking trail leads right around the Bärenschlössle and up to the "wildlife enclosure". We reach a wide forest path, which we follow along the game reserve in the direction of "Alte Kniebissteige" (yellow diamond). From here it goes down to the "Langenwaldsee". We walk back a short distance on the B28 in the direction of Freudenstadt and then turn right onto the wide road. We follow this paved path to Langenwaldsee, where it is worth taking a break at the lake. Afterwards we walk past the lake slightly uphill. From there, continue left following the yellow diamond up to the signpost "Schöneck". We enjoy the unexpected view towards Freudenstadt during a short rest at the Schöneckhütte and hike on the Teuchelweg (blue diamond) to the next signpost "Kohlweg". Here we recommend a short detour to the cozy forest café Teuchelwald, which can be seen through the trees in the forest at the top right. The way back to Freudenstadt is via the Mittelweg (red diamond with a white line), past the signposts "Hartranftweg" and "Bässler Brücke".
