In the Mercedarian monastery of San Juan de Poio, the church built in the 17th century stands out and reflects the taste for the combination of classicist and baroque forms. Inside there is a beautiful altarpiece from the 18th century, in Churrigueresque style, and in the left nave is the sepulcher of Santa Trahamunda (very revered in the municipality). The processions cloister (16th century) is also noteworthy, with a Baroque fountain and an original staircase. And the cloister of the cross (18th century) with its impressive 200 m2 mosaic of the Camino de Santiago. of length.

Also worth noting is its library, the mosaic museum, the "Escola de Canteiros" or the venue for the Summer University courses. At present, the convent is dedicated to a tourist hostel run by the monks.

The foundation of this monastery, which tradition says dates back to the 7th century, is attributed to the Benedictine Fructuosus of Braga. The 17th-century church combines classicism and baroque and houses the Suebian-Visigothic tomb of the Galician saint Trahamunda, patron saint of all homesick people. The monastery has two cloisters: the 16th-century Processional Cloister and the 18th-century Cruceiro Cloister, which contains an impressive mosaic of the French Way of St. James by the Czech artist Antoine Machourek.
