The Salzwedeler Tor is the only well-preserved of the four former city gates. It was built in the 16th century and was an important part of the city fortifications. The two mighty battery towers that precede the gate are 9 and 18 meters in diameter. In 1907 the gate was opened by Prof. Dr. Otto Stiehl reconstructed.
