Hiking

In the north-western area of the Eldena nature reserve there is a memorial stone for the poet Georg Engel. The memorial stone stands under a large and imposing oak tree. Georg Engel's ashes lie under the gravestone (at his request). Since Georg Engel was considered non-Aryan during the Nazi era, his gravestone was toppled and was not re-erected until 1945.

Hiking

On the southern edge of the Elisenhain is the memorial stone of the Greifswald writer Georg Julius Leopold Engel (1866 to 1931). His gravestone was toppled during the Nazi era and his books burned. His grave was only restored after 1945 and has been maintained since then.
