A must see in Liège and hopefully this site will be preserved.
The fortress was built for the defense of Liège. It was built on the Mont Cornillon in 1817 by order of William I and came into the hands of the new Belgian state after the Belgian Revolution in 1830. The fortress served in both World Wars, but has been abandoned since 1980 and has since been taken over by nature.
