Location and history: The rest area is not too far north of the parking lot of the Reichenbach marksmen's guild, directly on the Lützelbachtalweg.
It was created at the exact spot where the 25-year-old fighter pilot Dankwart Freiherr von Maltzahn crashed in the Second World War at 11 a.m. on September 6, 1943 during an air raid on Stuttgart by the US bomber fleet after his parachute failed. His plane crashed in an open field near Baltmannsweiler.
The rest area with the commemorative plaque was erected on September 6, 2008 in honor of all the victims of the bombing in Stuttgart and the Americans who did not return from the war after 1945.
To commemorate and remind all living that such bloodshed will not be repeated.
There is also a smaller sequoia here. This was planted in 2016 on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the local group Reichenbach/Fils Hochdorf, the Swabian Alb Association.
Source: partly from the commemorative plaque at the rest area and the Albverein plaque
