The Mariengrotte goes back to a playground and forest recreation area that was inaugurated on June 26, 1932 in the presence of thousands of people by Cardinal Faulhaber at the time and was given the name "Cardinal Faulhaber Forest Recreation Area". After the turmoil of war, only the grotto remained on the site, which has been cared for by local residents of the Truderinger cultural group ever since. There are regular devotions and prayers as well as annual forest Christmas. In 2017 the grotto was included in the list of protected monuments.
