Since Huttingen had long been a parish unit with Istein, there used to be no church here, but there was a St. Nicholas chapel from the 14th - 15th centuries. Century above the village on the so-called Roman road, it is said: on the site of a former Roman watchtower. The dilapidated chapel was replaced around 1900 by another one in the neo-Romanesque style. However, this was soon blown up for military reasons at the beginning of the First World War on the orders of the Istein fortress commander, which is still remembered today by the small St. Nicholas Chapel.

The St. Nicholas Chapel is an originally square, Gothic building (14th/15th century) without a chancel with a covered entrance door. Was supposedly built from the material of an old Roman tower. Around 1900 a new building was built in the neo-Romanesque style by Italian construction workers.
In 1914 it was blown up for military reasons.
Today, only the sacristy, which was isolated at the time, has been preserved as a chapel for the Virgin Mary.
