It was built at the end of the 13th century and initially dedicated to the Mother of God.
CHRONOLOGY
1520: the church of S. Giovanni Battista in Aviatico became canonically autonomous
1760 - 1775: the church, which originally had three small naves, was rebuilt bringing it to a single nave with two large rooms with cup vaults decorated with stucco
1822: the bell tower with regular segments was built by Pietro Dolci of Costa Serina
