Historic fortified manor house situated on a rocky hilltop above the River Darwen and at the end of a long straight driveway. It's origins date back to the 12th Century and the current buildings are from around 1560-65. Open to visitors at advertised times.

A rewarding view South is to be had from the top of this historic driveway which is paved in good quality asphalt.

Venture inside the grounds and there is an excellent cafe/restaurant as well as well manicured gardens to the rear. Admission to the grounds is free but a fee is payable to explore the buildings themselves.
