In 1378, a castle with a house, an apartment and fortifications was built in the Geeste farming community by Mr. Nikolaus von Langen and called it Vredevorth Castle. The destroyed castle was mentioned in the peace treaty of 1400 between Count Claus von Tecklenburg and the Bishop of Münster, but was no longer restored. Until the 1970s, the “Borg” corridor, a 64 × 52 m large, slightly elevated area with remains of the castle moat, still bore witness to the castle. These last traces of the former castle were leveled during land consolidation in the 1970s. Today there is absolutely nothing to be seen of the castle.
