The pergola was laid out in a west-east direction in 1840 and was the baseline from which measurements were taken from Bavarian Swabia. King Max I had the areas of his empire recorded in order to calculate equal taxes for landowners. He previously had 114 different taxes for landowners. After the end of the surveying work, an avenue of copper beeches, hornbeams and oaks was planted in this aisle. In contrast to all other forests around Krumbach, the trees along the leafy walkway have never been used for forestry purposes.
