The tunnel that goes under the sea is definitely closed to cyclists and pedestrians and is under video surveillance. The rumor that a road administration pickup truck would drive you through the tunnel is also not true (anymore?). I had Greek friends call me to avoid language difficulties.

Update September 2023: Tunnel is closed to bicycles, there is NO driving service from the road administration, as stated on other sites on the Internet. But there is probably a bus for 5€ per bike and 1.8€ per person (please inform in advance), taxi or hitchhiking. We had to wait about 40 minutes for a pickup that could take our two bikes.

Update April 2024: It is true that the tunnel is definitely closed to bicycles - there were three of us and after a very short wait at the side of the road we were brought across by a yellow delivery van from the road administration. The board that the driver offered as a ramp to load the bikes suggests that they do not only do this as an exception...at least it was no loss of time for us.
