steinfurt.city-map.de/02011400/kleimuehle-in-riesenbeckThe Kleimühle was first mentioned in a document in 1533.
In 1599 there was talk of necessary repair work due to severe dilapidation. The wooden mill mechanism was naturally subject to heavy wear and tear and the wooden mill body quickly weathered. As a result, in the history of this mill there was always talk of urgently needed repair work. In 1734 the idea of rebuilding it in stone was considered. The cost of building a new stone mill was estimated at 1,438 Reichstaler compared to 528 Reichstaler for a mill made of wood.
Tenants and owners changed again and again until 1820, in a public auction with the highest bidder, Baron Matthias Alexander von Heereman zu Surenburg was awarded the contract to purchase the Dominalmühle on the Klei in Bevergern for 1,500 thalers. At the end of 1866, Freiherr von Heereman temporarily gave up the miller's business to remodel the mill. The Freiherrlich Heeremansche Rentmeister asked various mill builders to submit offers for the construction of a massive windmill, with the condition that a passage would be built. The location of the new mill differed slightly from that of the old mill and was on the way from Bevergern to Riesenbeck.
Mill builder Heinrich Remme from Brochterbeck was commissioned to build the new tower Dutch windmill. The construction work was carried out by master carpenter Hagemann from Hörstel. In 1868 the mill went back into operation.
Today's cap is no longer original.Mill stump and gallery are now privately owned and converted for residential purposes. Therefore, only an outside visit is possible.
