Interesting ruins on the other side of the Danube, clearly visible from this square.

The Devín Castle, which stands on a mighty rocky hill above the confluence of the Danube and Morava, is an unusually impressive landscape dominant. “Here” the oldest history of Slovaks and Slovakia was written. The castle has an irregular floor plan adapted to the castle rock. The Western Moravian Gate leads to the castle complex. The stone gate protected by two semicircular bastions was built in the 15th century on an older Great Moravian rampart. Some vaults of this palace are now used as exhibition rooms of the Bratislava City Museum. The construction of the 55 m deep castle well, which is located in the yard of the middle castle, is connected with the time when the castle was owned by the Garays. At the fountain there is a viewing terrace with a view of the Danube and the Austrian Braunsberg. An elegant, slender tower with jagged towers rises above the beautiful scenery with the two-tone confluence of the Danube and Morava. According to legend, it is called the Maiden's Tower. A bridge over the 16th-century moat and stairs lead to the upper level with the remains of a 13th-century watchtower, rebuilt in the 15th-century.
