The pilgrimage on the Hainzenberg began in 1659. In 1738 the construction of today's pilgrimage church began in place of a small wooden chapel. In 1741 Josef Michael Schmutzer created the magnificent ceiling painting depicting the life of Mary and in 1748 it was furnished with a beautiful rococo altar by Stefan Föger. In 1756 the ceremonial consecration of the pilgrimage church took place. After a rock fall in 1914, the sanctuary was restored in 1923/24.
