The Sint Nicolaas or Dutch Reformed church is located on the southeast corner of the Brug-es. This brick, Gothic hall church was built around 1410 on the site of an older church from the 12th century. The nave has one aisle and provides access to an extension on the north side, the so-called Sint Maarten Chapel. From 1410 until the Reformation (1598), the altar of St. Martin's Vicarie stood here. The collator was the owner of the house of Entinge. Between 1640 and 1669 and from 1725 to about 1777 the chapel was owned by the lords of Batinge. Since then it has belonged to the heirs of the Oldengaerde estate. They also have their own men's chair, the so-called "van Oldengaord'nsbaank". Because the chapel belonged several times to the lords of Batinge, it is also popularly called after this manor. Three other vicar altars in the church were dedicated to Our Lady (1382), The Holy Cross and Saint Catherine, the latter of which was attached to the sexton. The sexton of Dwingeloo was also a schoolmaster and from 1665 also an organist.

The narrowed vaulted choir ends with a three-sided apse. In the wallwork on the northern outside there are remains of a sacristy. The profile moldings of the bricked-up entrance were still present until 1924. Today, only the color of the new bricks reveals the location of the missing door. The crypt of the Batinge house is located in the choir. Under the chairs in the chapel is the cemetery of the Van Westerholt tot Entinge family.

The St. Nicholas Church in Dwingeloo, with its striking 'siepeltoren', is a beacon in the area. A beautiful building in the heart of the Drenthe brink village. The church that has stood here for many centuries is a national monument. The monumental St. Nicholas Church in Dwingeloo was thoroughly renovated in 2022 and, with modern sanitary facilities, sound and video equipment, fully adapted to the requirements of this time, while retaining its medieval 'cozy' character. With this renovation/restoration, this medieval building is future-proof.
