    Hiking

    The Hermitage of Braid is the name of this whole area, including Blackford Hill, the observatory and the Braid Burn. Today it's known as the Hermitage of Braid and Blackford Hill Local Nature Reserve.
    There was once a castle here owned by the sheriff of Edinburgh. The castle was replaced by the current Hermitage House in 1785.
    In 1937 the park was gifted to the city.
