Today's church was built in 1831 under Pastor Justus Christoph Beuermann, who was pastor of Schönhagen from 1821 to 1834. But even before 1831 there was a church in Schönhagen. In the protocol of the general church visitation of March 20, 1585, a church in Schönhagen is documented. In addition, a communion chalice from 1566 is still in use today, so that the existence of a church at this time can be regarded as certain. This church had 179 women's and 117 men's estates; then came the crates. It can no longer be said with certainty whether there was a small chapel in Schönhagen before this older church. The current church is 29 m high, with the 10 m spire making up more than a third of the total height. In 1995 at Easter the naming of the church took place. Since then it has been called the Martin Luther Church.
