The single-nave church was built in the early 13th century and is already listed in the Ratzeburg tithe register in 1230. It has a retracted box choir with three pointed arched windows that is typical of the area. The nave and choir are arched and have windows arranged in pairs on the sides. The extension of the sacristy on the south side of the choir was added later. The sacristy itself also has an early Gothic ribbed vault. The crypt on the north side of the nave is also a structural extension from a later period. The hexagonal church tower in front of the western porch of the nave, however, is neo-Gothic and was only built in 1872.

The church has early Gothic paintings in the vault of the choir, an enthroned Christ with John and Mary from the period 1250/60. The paintings in the nave are from around 1400 and show the symbols of the evangelists and a representation of the devil. The alabaster crucifix was created at the beginning of the 17th century. The church also contains epitaphs, tombstones and memorial plaques for the von Parkentin and von Witzendorff noble families based in Seedorf and Groß Zecher. In the crypt on the north side of the nave there are decorated metal coffins from the end of the 17th century.

The parking lot at the beautiful historic church is a good starting point for hiking or cycling - a highly recommended place.

St. Clemens and St. Catherine's Church is the center of the Seedorf parish, comprising the villages of Seedorf, Groß- and Klein Zecher, Marienstedt, Hakendorf, and Dargow, the Bresahn and Niendorf estates, and the Butz and Vogtstemmen farmsteads. It was built around 1230/50. This church is of art-historical significance primarily for the vault paintings above the altar, which date from the time of its construction. Since the rediscovery of these paintings in 1954, the fresco painting has been considered one of the best-preserved large-scale paintings of the 13th century in Northern Germany.

Also worth seeing is the winged altarpiece created by Max Schegulla in 1965, depicting Jesus as the Good Shepherd.

A note for visitors: The church is open daily from Easter to Thanksgiving from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., often later. Welcome!
