Monte San Martino, at an altitude of 1,087 metres, is reached via an often tortuous road that starts in Cuveglio and passes through the small town of Duno. Monte San Martino is home to the church of San Martino in Culmine and boasts spectacular views of Lake Maggiore. The Cadorna line passed through this area during the First World War. In the Second World War the partisans fought a bloody battle here in 1943. Various hiking trails start from Monte San Martino.

Stunning panorama from the San Martino belvedere at the top in particular behind the church, from the opposite side you can see the whole Valcuvia, in my opinion one of the most beautiful in Varese.
