Nordborg Castle is one of the oldest in Denmark and the first castle complex on the island of Als.

First construction: In 1151 King Svend had a castle built as protection against the looting of the Wends. At that time this is the only fortress on the island of Als and King Svend calls it Alsborg.

About twenty years later a castle is built on the southern part of Alssund, this is called Søndre Borg and Alsborg is renamed Nørre Borg.

The original castle building was destroyed in a fire and then the advanced defense works were used for the construction of today's castle. In 1911 the castle was rebuilt and used as a German university until reunification in 1920.

The further education school, Nordborg Slots Efterskole, was established in 1921 by the merchant Johan Hansen, Copenhagen - born in Havnbjerg.

The buildings of the castle can only be visited from the outside, the castle park is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
