The church, which probably dates back to the 11th century, still preserves the ancient baptismal font, as well as paintings attributed to Daniele da Volterra. Inside there is also an original Museum of Popular Religiosity.
La Pieve is also the background to the novel by the Bolognese mystery writer Danila Comastri Montanari entitled "The archpriest's bell". The book tells of a peasant saga with a crime set in 1824, at the time of the papal Restoration, after the defeat of the Napoleonic dream.
