The south of Schkeuditz Papitzer clay pools (belong to the nature reserve Luppeaue) have in a confined space a wide range of different habitats. As a result, a large variety of animals and plants could develop and remain preserved to this day. The water bodies of the Papitzer clay pools provide replacement for ponds that have been disposed of elsewhere, and so on. a. as habitats for waterfowl, deciduous and moor frog, many insect and mollusc species.
