The church was first mentioned in 1348 and belonged to the Kerspel Wijhe until 1371. Since then, Wesepe has been a separate church game. The Gothic hall church was expanded in 1503 with a new, raised choir with a 5/8 closure. Nave and choir are vaulted by rib vaults. The tower got its current spire in the 16th century. The church contains a partial 13th-century baptismal font made of Bentheimer sandstone. The organ was built in 1876 by H.G. Holtgräve from Deventer. It originally stood in the Baptist Church in Deventer and was moved to Wesepe in 1894.The ringing in the tower consists of two bells. The oldest dates from 1502 and the youngest, cast by the Deventer bell founder Gerhard Schimmel, from 1699. It was restored in 2016.Restorations of the church itself took place in 1938 (choir), 1950/51 (rest of the church) and 2003/04 (roof). The traditionally reformed church is used by the Protestant Community of Wesepe, which is part of the PKN.
