The sanctuary of the Virgin of Montsant is located just over a thousand meters high, at the end of a plain where the Pélags ravine begins, a depression that lies between the Serra Major and the mountain range that borders the Ulldemolins valley.

Near the hermitage, there are also the ruins of the hermits' house that the hermitage had until well into the 20th century.

Traditionally, two festivals take place at the hermitage: one in the spring and the other in the summer. Albarca has one of the few local traditions about Sant Jordi prior to the current day of the book and the rose: a voted party, prior to the 18th century, to ask for the Saint's protection against the bites of vipers and scorpions. At the beginning of the 20th century, young people from Albarca climbed up there firing shots with their shotguns as a sign of celebration.

The REFUGIS PER L'ESPERIT hiking route reaches the Santa Maria de Montsant hermitage. A 4-hour walk to discover the surroundings of Albarca.
