Old Town Hall Schwarzenbek - Pröschstr. 6

The imposing house stands on the former official paddock - a field that was not developed until 1870 and lay between the current Compe-, Lauenburger- and Seestern-Pauly-Straße to the railway line.

In 1892 the master bricklayer Johann Prösch, who was also a community representative, bought land there. It is said about Prösch that his company had 300 employees at its peak.

His villa on the street named after him, number 8, is one of the most magnificent buildings of the Gründerzeit. The house next door, number 6, he built for his sons.

In 1924, the municipality of Schwarzenbek bought this villa and used it as the town hall. The building next door, number 4, served as the mayor's residence from 1955.

When the town hall became too small for the growing city, part of the administration moved to the Imperial Post Office on the Alter Markt, henceforth called "Stadthaus". That was 1970.

The youth club occupied the lower rooms in the villa on Pröschstrasse. Everything changed with the construction of the new town hall on Compestrasse.

It was inaugurated in August 1983 as part of a town festival that also celebrated the 100th anniversary of the fire brigade.
