If you walk up the road from S. Maria Delle Mole, the climb can be difficult. The path isn't all that pretty either. It's even nicer when you get to the top and get your first glimpse of Lake Alban, which lies far below the town. It is understandable that popes set up their summer residence up here - far from the heat, noise and smell of Vatican City.
The current Pope, Francis, opened part of the Palazzo Pontificio as a museum.
Don't forget to take a look at the parish church of San Tommaso da Villanova!
