Luther Monument Near Steinbach

Here Luther was abducted and brought to the Wartburg. Story to read

LUTHER'S CAPTURE AT STEINBACH200 meters from today's monument
removed Luther was captured on May 4, 1521 for his protection. On the way back from Worms, he drove with his friend Nikolaus von Amsdorf and the friar Johann Pezensteiner via Möhra into the Steinbacher Flur, up to the Eselskopf.
Here he was on the orders of the elector
Frederick the Wise by the
Castle captain of the Wartburg, Kaspar Hans von Berlepsch, and the
Altensteiner castle lord Burkhardt Hund from Wenckheim captured. Amsdorf returned to Möhra and reported everything there. An old beech tree rose at the place of capture. There are still 5 chairs made of their wood, which can be seen in the church in Steinbach. (... from information board)
