Schleifkotengrund Stamping Point No. 1

In the Schleifkotengrund near Steinbach in the direction of the Rennsteig there has been since
17th century grinding workshops. However, only the remains of the buildings can still be seen in which the pre-machined knife blades of the Steinbach blacksmiths used to be further processed by coarse and fine grinding. The reason where the Steinbach flows was also named after the former "Koten" (Kate, poor hut, farmhouse). The small mountain stream with its gradient served as the driving force for the grinders. A height difference of about 5 m was necessary. The distances between the individual blocks were therefore between 100 and 250 m. The blocks themselves were clay half-timbered buildings, some of which also contained apartments.(...from the information board)
