This post mill was erected on an artificial mill embankment. He came there around 1796, when the first owner Louis Carpentier moved from Kortrijk to Kuurne. Louis took his mill that used to be on Gentsesteenweg with him when he moved. From then on, the mill was used as a distillery mill. It got its name because the mill probably ground malt for the Kuurn distillery owned by Carpentier's wife, Barbara Holvoet.

The mill has been recognized as a monument since 1943. In 1959 it was decommissioned and bought by the municipality. Despite the repairs in 1963, the decay was inevitable.
