The Spatenbräufilz was named after the well-known Munich brewery, which owned this area until 1886. Peat was mined in what is now 0.21 square kilometers of high moor up until the 1960s. This destruction was counteracted with renaturation from 1995 and the area has been recovering since then. With bog sheep, an attempt is also made to keep this habitat of the bog areas open.
