The Maison Holzapfel from 1430 is a historic building, in combination with a city tour through the very beautiful old town a very nice sight in the region.
It is at the beginning of the shopping street. The house, built of red sandstone, stands out due to its four small corner towers. It was the seat of the imperial bailiff and guild house. Napoleon is also said to have stayed here in 1806.

This house was built around 1475 (?) for Heinrich Holzapfel, since 1451 advocate of the Duke of Zweibrücken, in Wissembourg, where he acquired citizenship in 1475 and where he was president of the relay court from 1482 to 1484 (according to B Weigel and Herber). In 1505 he sold the town (for 1030 guilders) this house, which was given the name Burgerhof. It served as a corporate meeting place on special occasions and was rented out (until the Revolution) to innkeepers in charge of the receptions the city's bourgeoisie could throw there. In 1506 the magistrate had the sculpted plaque of a wild man, holding the coat of arms of the kingdom and the city, added. The house, which was auctioned off in 1791, was acquired by the Apffel family. From the beginning of the 19th century until 1855 it housed the horse mail. In the courtyard were the outbuildings and the covered grain market. At the back of the house is a converted and raised extension (35a), which could partly date from the 15th century. The windows facing the street on the 1st and 2nd floors were renewed at the end of the 18th century; The stairwell in the neighboring building also dates from the same period. House no. 35 b was added in 1601. According to old town views from the 16th and 17th centuries, the house had crenellated or stepped gables and a crenellated coronation walkway to the south between the 2 corner watchtowers, of which the cul-de-lampe overhangs remain (covered by small modern towers).
