For years Zunderdorp was known as the milk village of Amsterdam. The fresh milk was transported by rowboats to the milk market in the city. "Because the milk was transported by boat, milk was sometimes lost. This was then supplemented with water from the IJ; this is how the first semi-skimmed milk was created… The latter is of course not the case, but it is a nice story."
