Former Sint-Rochuskerk is now a covered cemetery. The first in Belgium, it received the Flemish Momument Award in 2012. Worth a walk in in peace and quiet. Here are several walks to start. There is also a place to eat/drink at De Bottelarij or at Josephine's at the church. At De Bottelarij is a super nice shop with regional products and home Made cookies. Super fun with the Welwezens, pleasant for the kids.

The St. Rochus Church in Ulbeek (sub-municipality of Wellen) in Belgian Limburg was the parish church until 1938, located on the village square. It was then deconsecrated and a new church, also dedicated to Saint Roch, had been built 300 m away. Since 2012, the old church has been renovated and repurposed as an indoor cemetery. During excavations it was discovered that there was already a small church there around the year 1000. The foundations can now be seen. This is a wonderful example of how an old building, even a ruin, can be repurposed and given substance to its history. More information at nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sint-Rochuskerk_(Ulbeek)

A fitting use of an empty church but limited in space of course. Who gets a seat and who doesn't?
